"HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles" (hondasfordsvolvo)

The real down site of BaT and all the attention it gets is that people try to price their cars based on online auction results.
The seller also added the typical boomer “one Xnumber with this color combo, and transmission.
This is no doubt a nice car, but nearly 18k for a 15 year old, non M, BMW 3 series is stupid. Just because some rich idiot paid too much in a bidding war doesn’t mean it’s worth anywhere near that.

Ok, as the owner of a 1-owner, early E46 manual convertible (in a less common color even) this is freaking idiotic.

Yup. I think that with the low mileage, but also t he ownership history, in mind this is a really nice 9-11, 000 dollar car.

At most. People are *really* overvaluing low mileage on cars these days. Having 33k miles v. mine with 109k isn’t really better, IMHO - unless you fancy yourself an ‘investor’. Which is ridiculous.
And f*ck the seller for this ‘1 of 153 with that color exterior, and interior, and manual transmission. The exterior color is quite common - though probably paired with black leather most of the time. The manual trans is a little less common than the slushbox, but the manual is more common than people in this day and age probably realize.

I probably should - - but it’s got 109k miles and was a street parked city car for a few years. It’s mechanically perfect, but visually it’s a 10-footer.

Yeah the problem with low mileage cars is that al out of 15 year old parts just haven’t been replaced, which would have been on a higher mileage car. Those parts are still going to fail, just due to age rather than wearing out,

I’m more interested in the crack he’s smoking if he thinks his near voting age, bargain bin, inferior style 3 series is worth that much.

BaT is just no fun no more.
I do miss the rare dealer ad for a niche vehicle that just wouldn’t sell at the price they needed that used to slip through. E veryone, sometimes the only one, interested in that category then dutifully relayed the history of that exact vehicle in the comments.
I know some of you kids really like your die cast cars. Have to say this one even rekindled some of that in me . Even the 70's styling that normally is beyond awful could only be described as perfect here.

Yeah 4-7 is what I’m seeing most 330is at.

Mine is older - a 323 with the old M52. Only 168 HP, so a 330 would be worth more.

The real issue is the idiots that overpaid for those similar cars on bat.

I had one of those a few years ago. Paid 9000, traded in for 4000 a year later. All kinds of issues - not mechanical but material. Whatever plastics they used in those were just crumbling away with age.

Yeah I remember when BaT was only rare and interesting cars.

It’s because low mileage is freaky rare. Everyone drives so much that a low-mileage car is kind of unusual. Even like sub-10k/year surprises people. This is, what? Just over 2k/year? That’s basically not even driven.
At some point you have to wonder about how well they’re maintained when they are driven this little. Age affects a lot of components, so that should also count against cars that are this old... Unless they have one owner, verifiable garaging, and flawless records, I’d be leery.

And they might be that much harder to obtain now...

It’s freaky, and I get that it’s somewhat desirable, but this is overkill.
And agree that having few owners and complete records is critical. Less concerned about verifiable garaging, because the condition of the car will tell you that.
This is a SIX (!) owner car. Come on.

The main bonus of low mileage is less interior wear.
The condition of the car can be deceiving, depending on general care . It’s hard to completely hide outdoor parking where I live now (because vegetation ends up in the car and cannot be completely removed), but in a lot of places it isn’t obvious. With so many owners it’s pretty much guaranteed that it has not spent all that time in a garage. But keeping it indoors will radically extend the lifetime of the interior, regardless of how much it’s driven...
That’s just over 2 years per owner...

Around here, both the exterior and interior will get damaged over time if a car is left out, so it becomes fairly obvious by year 15. It’s true that not all climates are like that though.
